Michael Denneny works on fiction and non-fiction manuscripts
for publishers, literary agents and authors, doing
structural work on
manuscripts, complete line editing, and ghost
writing, as well as helping with the preparation of
book proposals.
In fiction,
he has worked with Susan Fromberg Schaeffer (Anya),
Ntozake Shange (For Colored Girls; Betsey Brown), J.
California Cooper (Some Soul To Keep), Ernestro
Maestre (The Lazarus Rhumba), and Rabih Allemeddine
(Koolaids). In mystery fiction, he has edited Linda
Barnes, Joan Hess, Steven Saylor, Barbara Neeley and
Eliot Pattison, among many others.
In
non-fiction, he is particularly interested in
history and current affairs (Neufeld and Berenbaum’s
The Bombing of Auschwitz, Fred Jerome’s The
Einstein
File, George Friedman’s The Future of War, Randy Shilts’ And The Band Played On and Conduct
Unbecoming) as well as memoirs (Lars Eighner’s
Travels with Lizbeth) and biography (David Macey’s
Frantz Fanon, G. Gordon Liddy’s Will, and
Mr. T. by
Mr. T). He is interested in virtually all forms of
non-fiction except cookbooks and travel books.
He was
awarded the Lambda Literary Award for Editing in
l993, the Literary Market Place Editor of the Year
Award in l994, and The Publishing Triangle Editor’s
Award in 2002. His books have won numerous
citations (an American Book Award to Judith Thurman’s
Isak Dinesen, the American Mystery Award for
Best Private Eye Novel for Linda Barnes’ A Trouble Of Fools; an Edgar Award For Best First Novel for Eliot Pattison’s
Skull Mantra), as well as appearing on
bestseller lists (G. Gordon Liddy’s autobiography
Will, Randy Shilts’ And the Band Played On).
