A veteran of over thirty-five years in publishing, I am now on my second stint as a freelance editor, the first one having been interrupted by ten years as a developmental and acquiring editor at Bantam Dell/Random House. Earlier I had worked at Little, Brown and Co., Clarkson N. Potter, Avon Books, and Macmillan Publishing Co.

I edit non-fiction only, but within that boundary everything from memoir to biography and autobiography, investigative journalism, Judaica, health and wellness, yoga, psychology, and popular science - and nonfiction narratives that fall into none of the above categories. I also edit and write proposals, and do ghostwriting and collaborations. I was co-author, with Olga Silverstein, of The Courage to Raise Good Men.

My specialty is in-depth re-working of the text, including re-structuring, re-writing, heavy line editing, and cutting. But I also know when to step back and apply only the most delicate of touches if the finished quality of the manuscript merits such light treatment.

I have been responsible for a number of New York Times bestsellers, including:

Provence 1970, Luke Barr (edited)

House in the Sky, Amanda Lindhout (edited)

The Grand Design, Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow (edited)

The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life, Alice Schroeder (edited)

Little Heathens, Mildred Kalish, named to TBR’s Ten Best of 2007 (acquired and edited) Mother-Daughter Wisdom, Christiane Northrup, M.D. (edited)

Peace, Love & Healing, Bernie Siegel, M.D. (ghosted)

Revolution from Within, Gloria Steinem (edited)

The Trial of Socrates, I.F. Stone (acquired)

Other authors I’ve worked with include David Willman, Richard Cohen, Jerald Walker, Daniel Coyle, Kate Moses, Nancy Jenkins, Elizabeth Hess, William Ury, Peggy Brill, Timothy McCall, M.D., Kathy Dobie, Masha Gessen, Eileen Welsome, Blanche Wiesen Cook, Candace B. Pert, Ph.D., Yaffa Eliach, John Edgar Wideman, Ethel Spector Person, M.D., and many others.
